Polishing — frequently asked questions
What is the difference between mirror and super mirror polishing?
Both are reflective; super mirror is taken through finer abrasive and buffing stages until the surface reflects without haze or waviness. It is specified for feature pieces and as the base for PVD where the coating must look like liquid metal.
Can polishing remove scratches from existing stainless steel?
Light scratches on bare stainless can be re-polished to a uniform finish. Deep gouges, dents or damaged PVD need the piece to be re-finished and re-coated, which we assess case by case.
How do you keep the grain direction consistent on large panels?
Satin and hairline finishes are run in one direction on each panel and marked on the shop drawing, so adjacent panels are installed with matching grain. Grain direction is checked at the post-polishing hold point.
Is polishing done in-house?
Yes. Polishing, like cutting, welding, PVD coating and electroplating, is done inside our Jeddah facility, so pieces are not transported between workshops with a finished surface exposed.
